Outpatient Surgery Center of Boca is committed to ensuring that your experience with us is relaxed and worry-free, from consultation through recovery. To assist us, we ask that you read and comply with the following guidelines.

Prior to your surgery

  • Immediately after your surgery has been scheduled – You must notify your primary care physician that you are having surgery, he/she will inform you if you need to see them for an additional appointment prior to the surgery. If you do not have a primary care physician, contact the surgery center so we can recommend one to you.
  • Notify the center if there is any change in your physical condition prior to your surgery, such as a fever or infection.
  • You may take your regular morning medications with a small amount of water the morning of your surgery, with the exception of diabetes medication.
  • Abstain from all food, liquids (including water), and smoking for six hours prior to your scheduled arrival. Gum, throat lozenges and hard candy should also be avoided. Your surgery will be cancelled if you do not comply.
  • On the day of surgery, wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing with buttons down the front of your blouse or shirt if possible. Do not wear makeup, lotion or jewelry – do not worry about jewelry that you are unable to remove. With the exception of your ID, insurance cards and any payments needing to be made, all valuables, including purses and wallets, should be left at home or with a responsible adult.
  • Per federal regulations, we must ask you if you have an Advanced Directive (Living Will) as well as its location. If you do have an Advanced Directive (Living Will), you will be asked to bring it with you so that we can include it in your medical record. It will be returned to you after you are checked in.
  • You may not drive for 24 hours after surgery. If you need transport to and from the surgery center, please contact us.
  • Per federal regulations, if you are coming to surgery by yourself: you must provide us with the name and phone number of a local person who can assist you after surgery, if needed.
  • A nurse from our center will call you one to two days prior to review your medical history, answer any questions you may have and give you your arrival time for surgery day.

Day Of Surgery

  • Please arrive at your scheduled arrival time to fill out the required forms and complete the admission process. Upon entering the center, notify the receptionist of your arrival. Be sure to bring your insurance cards, a photo ID and eye drops prescribed for the surgery. If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you.
  • You will be asked to sign multiple consent forms, which authorizes our physicians to perform the surgery. The forms are available on this website.
  • A nurse will prepare you for surgery and anesthesia services will assess and speak with you prior to the surgery.
  • During surgery, mild sedation will be utilized to keep you comfortable: most patients sleep during their procedure.
  • It is recommended that the person escorting you home remain in our waiting area throughout your preparation, surgery and recovery period. If they do wish to leave, please have them give their contact information to the receptionist.

After Your Surgery

  • You will receive both verbal and written discharge instructions following your surgery.
